About Forbidden

Me
I’m a California girl through and through.  While displaced in the North East for a while, I rediscovered knitting as a means to warm myself during those frigid winters. I originally learned to knit as a very young girl, but didn’t become completely obsessed until 2007, when I learned I could combine knitting with my other love, Harry Potter. I mean, does it really get any better than that? Soon, knitting alone wasn’t enough, so I learned to spin. And then to dye. And to combine colors into beautiful heathers by hand carding fiber into rolags. And then to create drum carded batts. Do I even need to mention the raw fleeces? It’s a slippery slope, my friends….

Why Forbidden?
There are many meanings behind the name Forbidden…some obvious, some just for me. Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, therefore I see accumulating mass amounts of yarn and fiber as Forbidden, but it’s not going to stop me anytime soon! The only thing I saw fit to do was share my passion for bold colors and beautiful fibers with all of you. Shhh…I won’t tell if you won’t!

I envision Forbidden as a place where I can combine all of my favorite things with my intense passion for all things fiber. My colorways are named after childhood memories, favorite places, beloved stories and legends, and anything else that I can pull from those magic dyepots. Because that what color is to me – magic.

Whether you see sharp, contrasting colors or subtle shading, all of my colorways are created with love on fibers and yarns that I enjoy working with myself.

Designing
My latest foray is into the world of knitwear design. Everywhere I go, I see beauty that inspire me to create beyond the dyepots. Stay tuned for more Forbidden Woolery exclusive patterns!
